1/20/2022 India (International Christian Concern) – Last Sunday, Christians in India were severely beaten for refusing to deny their faith. A mob of radical Hindu nationalists, along with the village leader, interrupted Sunday worship in the home of a Christian family. The mob burst into the house, took two Christian families, and beat them brutally. Among the three who suffered serious internal injuries, one man was unconscious for nearly an hour.
The two Christian families who were attacked came to faith just four months ago. Since then, they have been constantly harassed by radical residents. According to sources reaching International Christian Concern (ICC), the village leader amassed the mob, including residents of neighboring villages, and accused the Christians of converting to a foreign religion, abandoning their gods, and luring innocent tribal people to Christianity. The mob started to attack the Christians, including the women and children. The pastor fell unconscious after a significant beating. The crowd assumed he had died and left the scene. After an hour, he regained consciousness. the Christian community went to the police station to report the attackers, but the mob led by the village leader arrived to file a First Incident Report against the pastor. There is little hope for justice for the Christians.

What does persecution look like in India? What is life like for Christians?
Hindu extremists believe that all Indians should be Hindus, and that the country should be rid of Christianity and Islam. They use extensive violence to achieve this goal, particularly targeting Christians from a Hindu background. Christians are accused of following a “foreign faith” and blamed for bad luck in their communities. These believers are often physically attacked and sometimes killed, as well as being under constant pressure from their family and community to return to Hinduism. If they do not “re-convert,” they may be boycotted by their community, with a devastating effect on their ability to earn income. Many believers are isolated and don’t know any other Christians.
Christians are persecuted in all areas of public and private life, and anti-conversion laws (currently in nine states, with more considering adoption) are abused to harass and intimidate Christians. Few people are actually convicted under these laws, but cases can drag on for years.
1. North Korea: No. 1 for 19 consecutive years For three generations, everything in this isolated country has focused on idolizing the ruling Kim family. Christians are seen as hostile elements in society that must be eradicated. At all costs, they must keep their faith completely secret.

- If a Christian has a Bible, or part of one, it will be carefully hidden and only read when the believer is sure they are alone.
- Most Christians do not even tell their own children about their faith until they are older teenagers for fear that they may let something slip.
- As you can imagine, gathering for worship in a church is non-existent. Daring to meet other Christians for worship is a risky feat that must be done in utmost secrecy.
